ADC Factional Convention Venue Deserted Amid Crisis

The factional convention of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), led by Nafiu Bala, was scheduled to take place at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Complex, but the venue remained deserted as of the expected start time. No delegates or party officials were present, and major sections of the facility, including the velodrome, were locked.

This absence of activity coincides with a deepening leadership crisis within the party, where Bala's faction is in conflict with a rival faction led by former Senate President David Mark. Bala's faction had previously fixed a convention for April 21, 2026, rejecting a separate convention held on April 14 by the opposing faction, which they described as a breach of an existing court order.

The legitimacy of the earlier gathering is being questioned, especially in light of the Independent National Electoral Commission's refusal to recognize Bala as the national chairman. As of the time of reporting, Bala's faction had not provided an explanation for the absence of activity at the convention venue.
