Nigeria Wins 15th African Women Wrestling Title in Egypt

At the African Wrestling Championship held in Alexandria, Egypt, Nigeria's women's wrestling team emerged as the overall winner in the women's category, marking their 15th title. The team secured 8 gold medals, 2 silver medals, and a total of 10 medals.

Key performances included Merci Genesi defeating Tunisia's Chahraz Ayachi 6-0, Adijat Idri winning against Lobna Ichaoui of Tunisia 8-0, and Esther Asaolu dominating Egyptian Mariam Mosbeh 10-0. Merci Adekuoroy concluded the day with a victory over Lec Hej Marlyn from Central Africa Republic.

In the men's category, Harrison Onovwiomogbhwo won gold by defeating Egyptian home favorite Moham Mostafa 10-4 in the freestyle event. Other Nigerian wrestlers, including Ebierelayefa Andrew and Stephen Akintew, faced challenges, with Akintew settling for silver.

Overall, Nigeria finished the tournament in 3rd place, achieving its best result in recent years.
