Tinubu Congratulates Team Nigeria on Wrestling Triumph

President Bola Tinubu extended his congratulations to Team Nigeria for their remarkable achievement of winning the 15th African Women Wrestling title at the 2026 African Wrestling Championship held in Alexandria, Egypt. The Nigerian team showcased their dominance by securing eight gold and two silver medals across ten events in the women's division, contributing to an overall tally of nine gold, four silver, and three bronze medals across all categories.

Tinubu acknowledged the exceptional performances of wrestlers such as Genesi Adijat, Idri Esther Asaolu, and Adekuoroye, praising their skill and composure. He also commended Harrison Onovwiomogbhwo for his confidence in the men's freestyle category.

The president noted that this victory reflects a broader shift in Nigeria's sports ecosystem, emphasizing the need for structured preparation for long-term athlete development. He reaffirmed his administration's commitment to sports as a platform for youth opportunities and national cohesion.
