Health Workers Trained on Medical Oxygen Economy in Ebonyi

Health workers at the David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital (DUFUTH) in Ebonyi State participated in a specialized training workshop on medical oxygen economy and infrastructure on Tuesday, September 1, 2026. This training was part of the EQUI-RESP Africa Project, a multi-country initiative focused on developing interventions for respiratory diseases in low- and middle-income countries.

The project is funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR), United Kingdom, in collaboration with the University of Edinburgh. Prof. Jesse Uneke, Vice Chancellor of David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences (DUFUHS) and Ebonyi Project Lead for EQUI-RESP Africa, stated that the project is being implemented in five African countries, including Nigeria, and emphasized Nigeria's strategic importance in global health interventions.

He noted the establishment of an EQUI-RESP Africa project center in Ebonyi as a significant development for research and health interventions in the state. The research is also being conducted in Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki (AE-FUTHA).
