Bayelsa Launches Emergency Response Training for Schools

On Thursday, Prof. Seiyefa Brisibe, the Bayelsa State Commissioner for Health, stated that training secondary school students and teachers in emergency response is crucial for saving lives and reducing response times to medical emergencies. This announcement was made during a three-day emergency response training organized by FIRST Exploration & Petroleum Development Company Limited and the NNPC Limited/FIRST E&P Joint Venture, in partnership with the Health Emergency Initiative, in Yenagoa.

The program trained over 100 secondary school students and 50 teachers in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Brisibe noted that this initiative is part of the state government's broader efforts to enhance healthcare delivery and increase life expectancy.

He revealed that Bayelsa invested approximately N9 billion in healthcare in the first quarter of 2026. The training will expand to public institutions and communities, with future phases including training for representatives from the judiciary, legislature, and ministries.

Additionally, new programs in emergency medical technology and physiotherapy will be introduced at the Bayelsa State College of Health Technology.
