Watson and Dart Set for All-British US Open Qualifier

Heather Watson and Harriet Dart are set to compete in an all-British clash for a place in the US Open main draw after successfully navigating their second-round qualifying matches in New York. Watson triumphed over Spain’s Angela Fita Boluda with a score of 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (10-5) after nearly three hours of play.

Despite leading in the deciding set, Watson faced a comeback from Fita Boluda, but ultimately secured victory in the tie-break. This match marks Watson's attempt to return to the US Open main draw, having last qualified in 2021.

Dart, on the other hand, recovered from a first-set loss to American 16-year-old Kristina Penickova, winning the next two sets 6-0, 6-3. The encounter guarantees that one of the two players will advance to the main draw, which begins on Sunday.

Additionally, Francesca Jones also advanced in the women’s qualifying draw, defeating Germany’s Mona Barthel.
