Nigerian Football Legend Henry Nwosu Passes Away at 62

Henry Nwosu, a celebrated former midfielder for Nigeria's national football team, the Green Eagles, has passed away at the age of 62. His death was announced on a Saturday following a brief illness, during which he spent five days in intensive care at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital.

Nwosu was the youngest member of Nigeria's historic 1980 Africa Cup of Nations winning squad, a title that marked Nigeria's first victory on home soil. His football career spanned several decades, during which he participated in multiple continental tournaments, including the Africa Cup of Nations in 1982, 1984, and 1988.

After retiring from active play, Nwosu remained involved in football as a coach and mentor, contributing to the development of younger players. The Nigeria Football Federation and the National Sports Commission, through their chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko and director general Bukola Olopade, extended heartfelt condolences to Nwosu's family and the Nigerian football community.
