Herder Dies in Rivers State Road Crash Involving Cattle

An unidentified herder died following a road crash involving a Mercedes-Benz car and a herd of cattle at Evekwu in Rumuodogu, Emohua Local Government Area, Rivers State, on Thursday. Eyewitnesses reported that the cattle were crossing the road when the speeding vehicle struck them, resulting in the death of approximately 11 cows.

The occupants of the vehicle, who were traveling in a convoy, abandoned the damaged vehicle and fled the scene. Police officers from the Emohua Division responded to the incident, evacuating the deceased's body to the morgue and taking the injured victim for medical attention.

Blessing Agabe, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, confirmed the incident on Friday, stating that investigations are ongoing. Agabe, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, noted that one individual died, while another was injured but is now stable.

The owner of the Mercedes-Benz reportedly fled before police arrived, and the deceased's body was taken away by relatives.
