Plateau Governor Mutfwang Bans HISBA Activities in Jos

Caleb Mutfwang, the Executive Governor of Plateau State, has outlawed the activities of a group known as HISBA operating in parts of Jos North Local Government Area. He described these activities as “illegal, unauthorised and unacceptable” and directed security agencies to immediately cease their operations and arrest those responsible.

This decision follows reports of the group's involvement in intimidation, harassment, extortion, and the imposition of unauthorized rules on residents. Mutfwang emphasized that no individual or group has the authority to assume powers not granted by law and that Plateau State operates under one Constitution and legal system.

He ordered security agencies to identify and investigate those involved, ensuring prosecution for anyone found culpable. Mutfwang clarified that the crackdown is not aimed at any religion or ethnic group but is focused on lawful conduct and legitimate authority.

He reiterated that every resident has the right to live and worship freely.
