Delta State Dominates Niger Delta Games with Double Gold

At the Niger Delta Games held at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City on Wednesday, sprinters Peter Ejiro and Chibuez Osama powered Delta State to win double gold medals in the 200m events. Ejiro clocked a time of 23.66 seconds to secure victory in the women's 200m, finishing ahead of Edo State's Tejiri Ugoh, who recorded 23.75 seconds, while Delta's Faith Chukwuma took bronze with a time of 24.02 seconds.

In the men's race, Osama finished strong with a time of 21.43 seconds, edging out Akwa Ibom's Gift Bright, who ran 21.61 seconds, and Cross River's Martia Iwara, who matched Bright's time to settle for bronze in a photo finish. Additionally, the duo contributed to Delta's success in the mixed 4x100m relay, helping the team achieve a time of 43.07 seconds.

Overall, Delta State amassed a total of 102 medals, leading the medal tally by 11 over Edo State, which secured 50 gold medals.
