Edo State Wins Niger Delta Games, Claims 111 Medals

Philip Shaibu, the Deputy Governor of Edo State, congratulated the Edo team for their historic victory at the second edition of the Niger Delta Games (NDG), organized by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). Edo State emerged as the overall champion, amassing a total of 111 medals, including 52 gold, 34 silver, and 25 bronze, marking a significant achievement after a 24-year wait to reclaim regional glory.

The games, held in Benin City, featured 3,000 athletes from nine states competing in 17 different sports. Shaibu praised the resilience and preparation of Edo athletes, noting their consistent performance in combat sports and team events.

Delta State finished as the runner-up with 39 gold, 29 silver, and 34 bronze medals, while Bayelsa State secured third place with 25 gold, 24 silver, and 26 bronze medals. Shaibu also acknowledged the participation of other states and emphasized the importance of collaboration in achieving success in sports.
