UNIABUJA Appeals for Investment Amid Student Housing Crisis

The University of Abuja has issued an urgent appeal to private investors and corporate organizations to address a critical shortage of student accommodation amid a growing student population. This call was made during the university's 29th and 30th convocation ceremonies held in Abuja, where 12,624 students graduated, including 77 first-class degree holders.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Hakeem Fawehinmi presented a breakdown of graduates from the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 academic sessions, with 4,573 postgraduate students expected to graduate by March 2024.

The university's leadership emphasized the need for infrastructural development, particularly in student housing, as the rapid expansion of student enrollment has not matched the growth of accommodation facilities. Pro Chancellor Dr.

Olanrewaju Tejuoso highlighted the unsustainable situation and urged corporate support for hostel development. The university has been selected among six Nigerian institutions to benefit from a N4 billion special intervention program aimed at addressing these infrastructural deficits.
