UNIABUJA Graduates 12,624 Students, 77 First Class Honorees

The University of Abuja celebrated its combined 29th and 30th convocation, graduating a total of 12,624 students, which included 77 first-class graduates. Vice Chancellor Professor Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi announced this during a pre-convocation event held at the university's main campus in Abuja.

The breakdown of graduates revealed that for the 2022/2023 academic session, 7,158 students would graduate, comprising 48 first-class, 2,048 second-class upper, 4,418 second-class lower, and 644 third-class degrees. For the 2023/2024 session, 5,466 students are set to graduate, including 29 first-class, 1,395 second-class upper, 3,091 second-class lower, and 951 third-class degrees.

The convocation will feature various activities, including a tree planting exercise and lectures on climate change and fintech. The main ceremony is scheduled for April 17, with the conferment of honorary degrees on distinguished Nigerians on April 18.

Fawehinmi highlighted the university's progress despite challenges such as infrastructure deficits and funding constraints.
