President Bola Tinubu revealed the backstory of how the broom became the enduring emblem of the All Progressives Congress (APC) following a spirited disagreement with late former President Muhammadu Buhari during the party's formative years. Tinubu shared the account at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, recounting how Buhari insisted on a parliamentary symbol while Tinubu pushed for the broom as a unifying representation of collective action and unity.

The broom eventually became the symbol of the APC, symbolizing the determination to sweep away corruption. The revelation came during a meeting with members of the Buhari Organisation led by former Nasarawa State Governor Senator Tanko Al-Makura.
