Governor Lawal Defects to APC After Court Ruling

Governor Lawal of Zamfara State announced his defection from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) due to an Appeal Court ruling that he claimed invalidated the PDP's national convention scheduled for November 15-16, 2025, in Ibadan. The ruling, delivered on March 9, 2023, by a three-member panel, dismissed an appeal filed by the PDP regarding the jurisdiction of the Federal High Court to entertain a suit against the party.

Governor Lawal expressed that despite his efforts to remain with the PDP and achieve peace through court settlements, these attempts proved futile. He noted that the ongoing litigation crisis within the PDP and the failure of reconciliation efforts led him to prioritize the interests of the people of Zamfara, ultimately deciding to join the APC.

Lawal's statement was made public on Tuesday through his spokesperson.
