Kano/Jigawa Customs Seizes N1.71bn Contraband in 2026

The Kano/Jigawa Customs Area Command reported a revenue generation of N63.08 billion from January to June 2026, representing a 7.4% increase from N58.39 billion collected during the same period in 2025. Deputy Comptroller Usman Adamu presented the command's half-year operational report at the command headquarters in Bompai, Kano.

Despite a decline in cargo, the command recovered approximately N3 billion through enforcement of transit procedures. Notably, the Kano Free Trade Zone contributed N26 billion in the first half of 2026, surpassing its total revenue for the entire year of 2025, which was N4 billion.

The command seized contraband valued at N1.71 billion, including unregistered pharmaceuticals like tramadol and pregabalin, firearms, elephant tusks, and various smuggled goods. A total of 22 suspects were arrested in connection with these seizures, and further investigations are ongoing in collaboration with relevant security regulatory agencies.
