Nigeria Aims to Become Africa's Aqua-Tourism Leader

Yomi Sonuga, the chairman of Bra Marin Yacht Service, has called for Nigeria to enhance its boating culture to position the country as Africa's next global aqua-tourism destination. During a media tour of notable beach resorts in Lagos, he highlighted Nigeria's extensive coastline, inland waterways, and rich cultural heritage as foundational elements for developing a world-class aqua-tourism industry.

Sonuga emphasized the necessity for greater investment in boat safety, modern marine infrastructure, navigation technology, and recreational boating culture to unlock Nigeria's vast aquatic potential. He noted that Nigeria has the opportunity to become Africa's premier aqua-tourism destination, capable of competing with renowned global locations such as Santorini, Seychelles, Maldives, and Cancun.

Key strategies include prioritizing marine safety, investing in modern marina facilities, and transforming boating activities into lifestyle experiences. Despite Nigeria's significant aquatic resources, they remain underutilized, and Sonuga's vision aims to establish Nigeria as a globally recognized maritime tourism hub.
