Justice Faruku Hassan Bunza Abducted in Kebbi State

In the early hours of Sunday, Justice Faruku Hassan Bunza was abducted from his residence in Bunza, Kebbi State, shortly after returning from a trip to Sokoto. The incident marks the second abduction of a serving judge in recent times, following the kidnapping of Justice Ebiyerin Umokoro in June 2025.

According to a source, the gunmen attacked shortly after Bunza arrived home, firing several shots but injuring no one else in the house. SP Bashir Usman, the Police Public Relations Officer for Kebbi State, confirmed the abduction and stated that CP Umar Muhammad Hadejia had deployed tactical and intelligence operatives to locate the judge.

A senior official from the Kebbi State High Court described the incident as a painful moment for the judiciary. The family of Justice Bunza expressed deep concern for his safety, detailing how armed men confronted him as he entered his compound, insisting they knew he was the person they were looking for.

As of the report, no group had claimed responsibility for the abduction.
