Family Pays N50 Million Ransom for Judge's Release

Justice Faruk Hassan Bunza of the Kebbi State High Court was kidnapped from his residence in Bunza town two weeks prior to his release. A family member disclosed that the family paid a ransom of N50 million to the kidnappers, contradicting earlier claims that no ransom was paid.

The kidnappers initially demanded N200 million but settled for N50 million after several days of negotiations. Following his release on Monday, the judge is currently recuperating at home, and the family plans to address the media once he has fully recovered.

The family expressed gratitude to the Kebbi State government, security agencies, the state judiciary, and local residents for their support during the ordeal. Additionally, the family recounted that while delivering the ransom, the kidnappers requested five bottles of malt drinks and five bottles of Dudu drinks, which they consumed in the family's presence before accepting the ransom.
