Nigerian Defence Minister on Kidnap Rescue Strategies

On Channels Television's Politics Today, Gen. Christopher Musa (retd.), Nigeria's Minister of Defence, detailed the military's strategy for rescuing kidnapped victims without direct confrontation with terrorists. He explained that the approach involves locating the captors, sealing off escape routes, and cutting off essential supplies like food and water.

This method often leads to terrorists abandoning their captives. Musa emphasized that this strategy is deliberate and effective, negating the need for direct military engagement.

He also discussed ransom payments, suggesting that they could be used to trace criminal networks rather than simply blocking them. Furthermore, Musa urged state governors to reconsider distributing motorcycles as palliatives, warning that these could end up in the hands of bandits, enhancing their mobility for attacks.

He made allegations against former Kaduna governor Nasir Elrufai, claiming he contributed to division and violence in the state, while praising the current governor for reversing Elrufai's actions.
