Defence Minister's Claims Contradicted by Ongoing Attacks

Nigeria's Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, asserted that terrorists have been defeated, a claim met with skepticism due to ongoing security breaches. On August 21, approximately 500 individuals were kidnapped during attacks on mosques and villages in Borgu, Niger State, prompting President's orders for military intervention.

Five communities were destroyed in the assault. Following Musa's declaration, Boko Haram fighters attacked a village in Adamawa State, resulting in 11 fatalities.

The region has faced numerous insurgent attacks throughout the year. A significant assault occurred in early September when terrorists attempted to seize a military base of Operation Hadin Kai in Pulka, Borno State.

Earlier in March, a sustained attack in Ngoshe resulted in numerous casualties among soldiers. Musa's claims of reduced attacks are contradicted by these violent incidents, including the May Oriire school kidnapping in Oyo State, where terrorists crossed from Kogi State, resulting in the deaths of two teachers, including Matthew Oyedokun.
