Bala Claims Forgery in ADC Leadership Dispute

Nafiu Bala, the factional chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has publicly stated that his signature was forged on a resignation letter purportedly submitted by him. This letter claimed he resigned as the national vice chairman on May 17, 2025, but Bala insists he did not sign it.

He emerged as the acting national chairman following the resignation of the party's former leadership on July 2, 2025. Bala's faction is currently embroiled in a legal dispute with David Mark, a former Senate president, over the leadership of the ADC.

Bala filed a suit at the Federal High Court in Abuja (suit no. FHC/ABJ/CS/1819/2025) on September 2, 2025, seeking to stop Mark's team from presenting themselves as party leaders and to compel the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize him as the acting national chairman.

The court proceedings have seen various motions filed, with a significant ruling on March 12, 2026, where the Court of Appeal dismissed Mark's case as incompetent.
