Nafiu Bala Resumes as ADC National Chairman, Denies Resignation

Nafiu Bala has officially resumed his position as the acting National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), denying allegations of his resignation. He addressed claims regarding a resignation letter purportedly dated May 17, 2025, stating it was not genuine and bore a forged signature.

Bala explained that he became the acting chairman following the resignation of former chairman Ralph Nwosu on July 2, 2025. According to the party's constitution, the deputy chairman can assume leadership when there is no official leader.

Bala dismissed the allegations of resignation made in August 2025 as false and misleading, which have led to a legal battle involving former Senate President David Mark. Mark claimed Bala resigned on May 17, 2025, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was informed on August 12, 2025.

Bala sought legal recognition of his position on September 2, 2025, to prevent Mark's team from presenting themselves as leaders. The Federal High Court in Abuja began hearing the matter, and on March 12, 2026, the court of appeal dismissed Mark's case, ruling it without merit, thus affirming Bala's position as the acting chairman.
