Nigerians Abroad Can Renew Passports Contactlessly

Nigerians living abroad can renew their passports without physically visiting an embassy or high commission for biometric enrolment, thanks to the Nigeria Immigration Service’s (NIS) Contactless Passport Application System. This system allows eligible Nigerians in the diaspora to apply for passport renewal, complete biometric enrolment, and track applications remotely.

To begin the process, applicants must visit the official NIS passport portal, select “Apply from Outside Nigeria,” and then “Apply for Renewal/Re-issue.” They need to create an account, verify their identity with their National Identification Number and date of birth, complete the application form, select their processing embassy, and upload required documents. After payment of the passport fee, applicants receive an Application ID and Reference Number.

They can choose between a physical or contactless appointment. For contactless service, they must opt-in and follow a step-by-step guide, including capturing their facial image and fingerprints.

Successful applicants will pay a contactless service fee after their biometrics are reviewed.
