NIS Enrolls 8,552 Nigerians Abroad to Tackle Passport Delays

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has successfully enrolled 8,552 Nigerians in the United States, Canada, Qatar, and the United Kingdom as part of targeted passport intervention exercises aimed at addressing ongoing complaints regarding passport application delays. This update was provided by the NIS on September 21, 2026.

The initiative, directed by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, involved collaboration with Nigerian diplomatic missions and community representatives in the respective countries. The UK saw the highest enrolment with 5,099 Nigerians registered in London and Manchester, while Canada recorded 2,257 enrolments from September 6 to 19.

In the US, 535 Nigerians were enrolled between September 7 and 15, and 751 in Qatar from August 9 to 24. Despite these efforts, complaints arose regarding delays and additional administrative fees during the intervention, prompting the Minister to clarify the situation.
