NIS Enrolls 8,552 Nigerians Abroad in Passport Drive

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has successfully enrolled 8,552 Nigerians living in the diaspora as part of targeted passport intervention exercises aimed at enhancing service delivery. This initiative follows the directive of the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

The NIS, through a statement e-signed by Public Relations Officer DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, noted that the exercises were conducted in collaboration with Nigerian diplomatic missions and community representatives in the United States, Canada, Qatar, and the United Kingdom. In the United States, 535 Nigerians were enrolled from September 7 to 15, 2026, in Chicago, Michigan, and Milwaukee.

In Canada, 2,257 applicants were enrolled from September 6 to 19 across various provinces. Qatar's intervention recorded 751 enrolments from August 9 to 24, while the UK saw the highest number with 5,099 Nigerians enrolled in London and Manchester, with the exercise ongoing.

The NIS also encouraged Nigerians unable to secure appointment slots to utilize the Contactless Passport Application System.
