Photography as a Tool for Healing Nigeria's Divisions

Endurance Nosakhare Obasohan, a lawyer, photographer, and visual storyteller, is the Founder and Creative Director of Shutter For Change Initiative. He believes that photography and visual storytelling can heal Nigeria's social divisions, promote national unity, and create economic opportunities for young people.

Inspired by his upbringing in Benin City, Edo State, and his exposure to art through his older brother, Obasohan established Shutter For Change to address the societal divisions he observed in Nigeria. He emphasizes that economic development is linked to trust and cooperation among citizens, arguing that collective trauma leads to distrust and fragmentation, hindering collaboration and innovation.

Obasohan aims to use visual storytelling to foster a sense of shared identity among Nigerians, encouraging them to view each other as partners. The initiative plans to empower young Nigerians through workshops, mentorship programs, and practical learning opportunities, equipping them with creative, storytelling, and visual communication skills to thrive in the global creative economy.
