FCTA Launches Life Support Training for Health Workers

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) initiated a four-day Basic Life Support training program for health workers from seven hospitals in Abuja, including Asokoro, Maitama, Wuse, Gwarinpa, Kuje, Kubwa, and Nyanya. The training, certified by the American Heart Association, aims to strengthen emergency response and reduce preventable deaths.
Dr. Dolapo Fasawe, the Mandate Secretary of the Health Services and Environment Secretariat, opened the program, emphasizing the importance of equipping health workers with practical skills for medical emergencies. The initiative also supports the National Community CPR Initiative, enabling participants to share knowledge with colleagues and the public.
Dr. Oluseyi Ashaolu, medical director of Asokoro District Hospital, noted the training's timeliness in potentially saving lives. The program, coordinated by Dr. Rosemary Nwokorie, includes a “Stop the Bleeding” course and is conducted in batches, with the first batch scheduled for August 21 and 22, and the second for September 4 and 5, 2026.
The FCTA plans to extend the training to other hospitals and establish Code Blue Teams for urgent patient care.
