Thunderstorm Tragedy Claims Six Children in Adamawa

On Sunday, during a heavy downpour around 4:00 PM, a thunderstorm struck Gany, Adamawa State, leading to the deaths of six children who had taken shelter under a tree while harvesting groundnuts. The deceased were identified as Abdulrahman Musa (7), Aliyu Sule Maud (10), Jaafar Sule Maud (10), Bilkisu Jibrin Maud (20), Musa Ahmadu (9), and Auwalu Nuhu (11).

Four other children, including Nasiru Abubakar (7), Rilwanu Ahmadu (9), Saadatu Isa (35), and Hasiya Isa (3 months), sustained various degrees of injuries and were treated at General Hospital Gany. The incident was described as one of the worst lightning-related disasters in the community in recent years.

Families of the deceased, including Suleiman Maud, who lost two sons, and Jibrilla Hamma, who found the children, expressed their heartbreak. The victims were buried on Monday morning according to Islamic rites, while local government chairman Daniel Kamsobbi extended condolences to the bereaved families.
