Thunderstorm Claims Life of 14-Year-Old Student in Niger

Yahaya Ibrahim Tafida, a 14-year-old student from Polic Secondary School in Minna, was tragically killed by a lightning strike during a thunderstorm in Niger State. The incident occurred around 6 PM on a Monday while he was playing football with friends at the girls' secondary school football field in Lapai Local Government Area.

As the rain and strong winds began, Tafida and his friends sought shelter under a tree. Unfortunately, he did not return home, prompting concern among his family and friends.

Eyewitnesses reported that a sudden lightning strike hit the spot where he was taking cover, leading to his death. The local community, including residents like Moham Musa, expressed their grief over the loss.

Efforts to obtain a reaction from the Niger State Police Command spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun, were unsuccessful as he could not be reached by phone or text at the time of the report.
