Lightning Strike Claims Six Children in Adamawa

On July 19, 2026, a tragic lightning strike in Gany, Adamawa, resulted in the deaths of six children and injuries to four others during a heavy downpour. The victims were reportedly harvesting groundnuts when the lightning struck.

Eyewitnesses informed Daily Trust that the deceased included Abdulrahman Musa (7), Aliyu Sule Maund (10), Jaafar Sule Maund (10), Bilkisu Jibrin Maund (20), Musa Ahmadu (9), and Auwalu Nuhu (11). The four survivors, Nasiru Abubakar (7), Rilwanu Ahmadu (9), Saadatu Isa (35), and Hasiya Isa (1 year and 3 months old), are currently receiving medical treatment at a general hospital in Gany.

Daniel Kamsobbi, the chairman of the Gany Local Government Council, expressed condolences to the families and described the situation as tragic. He confirmed that six children died instantly, while four others were injured, with one mother and child discharged after medical examination.

Kamsobbi stated that police and security officials have been ordered to investigate the cause of the tragedy, whether it was a natural phenomenon or human-induced.
