Windstorm Claims Lives of Two Children in Bauchi

On a Monday, a violent windstorm accompanied by heavy rainfall struck Burra, located in the Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi State, resulting in the deaths of two children. The victims, identified as Amina Maharazu (8) and Asiya Tasiu (8), were among five children who sought refuge under trees to escape the rain.

The trees were uprooted by the storm, leading to the tragic incident. Superintendent Nafiu Habib, spokesperson for the Bauchi State Police Command, confirmed that the Burra Division Police Headquarters received reports of the incident.

Police officers were dispatched to the scene, where they rushed the injured children to a primary health care center in Bash for medical attention. While Amina Maharazu and Asiya Tasiu were pronounced dead by medical practitioners, two other children, Sulaiman M.

Rabiu (12) and Yusuf M. Salmanu (8), are currently receiving treatment and responding positively.

The police have initiated an investigation into the incident, and the bodies of the deceased have been released to their families for burial according to Islamic rites. The police urged parents and guardians to educate children about the dangers of seeking shelter under trees during storms to prevent similar tragedies.
