Col. Sani Bello Calls for Retired Military Re-engagement

In an interview on Premier Radio Kano, Col. Sani Bello advocated for the re-engagement of retired military personnel to bolster Nigeria's security forces in the fight against banditry.

He stated that security agencies are aware of the hideouts of notorious bandits and possess the capacity to eliminate them. However, he criticized the government for not pursuing a more aggressive approach to neutralize these criminal groups.

Bello highlighted the need for a significant increase in troop numbers, noting that current battalions operate far below required strength, with some having only 200 soldiers instead of the necessary 700. He referenced historical precedents from the Nigerian Civil War, where the military expanded from 8,000 to 200,000 personnel, suggesting that a similar strategy could be employed today.

He also mentioned that retired military personnel could be quickly integrated into the police force with minimal additional training, thus enhancing Nigeria's military strength in a short time.
