Nigeria Must Leverage Technology to Combat Terrorism

Sani Usman, a former director of Army Public Relations for the Nigerian Army, stated that Nigeria can significantly weaken terrorist and bandit groups by deploying modern technology and strengthening intelligence gathering across the country. During an appearance on Channels Television's Sunday Politics, Usman addressed the growing security challenges facing Nigeria and the critical role of intelligence in combating violent crime.

He noted that retired military officers and security agencies have the advantage of technological tools to track criminal networks and identify suspects early to prevent attacks. Usman explained that modern surveillance systems, digital databases, and biometric technology are essential components of contemporary warfare and international security operations.

He called for stronger collaboration among security agencies to improve intelligence-driven operations and emphasized the necessity of sharing information among military, intelligence, and police agencies. Usman pointed out that criminals often exploit weaknesses in existing systems, making it imperative to enhance intelligence gathering and community involvement to disrupt criminal operations effectively.
