Tyre Burst on Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway Claims Three Lives

On Thursday, around 11:05 AM, a tragic accident occurred on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway near Iyana Egbado, resulting in three fatalities and 15 injuries. According to Babatunde Akinbiyi, spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance Enforcement Agency, the incident involved a Mazda bus with registration number KRD 809 XC carrying 20 passengers.

The bus suffered a tyre burst, causing the driver to lose control, leading to the vehicle somersaulting and subsequently catching fire. Eyewitness accounts confirmed that three occupants were burnt beyond recognition, while 15 others sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to Ifo General Hospital for treatment.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Babaseyi Oluseyi, also confirmed the incident, stating that preliminary investigations suggested speed and overload as probable causes of the crash. The Federal Road Safety Corps spokesperson, Afolabi Odunsi, noted that the bus comprised six adult males, 11 adult females, one male child, and two female children.

The vehicle was recovered for safety inspection, and investigations are ongoing.
