Fatal Crash on Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway Claims One Life

A tragic accident on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway resulted in one fatality and 13 injuries on Sunday. The crash occurred around 12:00 PM near Eruku Bridge, involving 16 individuals, including two adult males, 11 adult females, and two female children.

Afolabi Odunsi, spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, confirmed the incident, attributing it to a combination of speed violation and a tyre burst involving a white Mazda bus with registration number MU 543XZ. The deceased was an adult female, while 13 others sustained various degrees of injuries, and two female children escaped unhurt.

Emergency responders arrived within five minutes of the distress call to evacuate the injured to a state specialist hospital in Ifo. Odunsi advised motorists to regularly inspect their tyres and avoid excessive speed, particularly on highways, to prevent such accidents.

This incident follows a previous crash on May 11 that claimed 11 lives when a vehicle plunged off the same bridge.
