NCC Enhances Telecommunications Services in Nigeria

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), led by Nnenna Ukoha, is actively working to reverse the poor quality of telecommunications services in Nigeria. Recognizing consumer frustrations with dropped calls and slow internet speeds, the NCC has intensified its monitoring of mobile network operators and internet service providers.
Over the past two years, the NCC has prioritized improving service quality, with mobile network operators investing N2.13 trillion in network infrastructure upgrades and tower companies contributing an additional N373.8 billion. The NCC plans to upgrade 12,000 sites by 2026, with 3,000 already completed and 730 additional 5G sites deployed across 27 states.
The commission is also facilitating the reallocation of underutilized radio spectrum among major operators to enhance network performance. Despite these efforts, some consumers still experience poor service quality, prompting the NCC to conduct market studies to create a wholesale market segment for smaller internet service providers to improve service delivery and reduce costs.
