Wike Distances Himself from APC Screening Process

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), publicly distanced himself from the All Progressives Congress (APC) screening process, asserting that he is not a member of the party and therefore does not have knowledge of the proceedings. This statement emerged amidst reports that Governor Siminalayi Fubara of River State has been unresponsive regarding the screening.

Wike made these remarks during an inspection tour of various infrastructure projects across the FCT, where he characterized his comments as blunt and limited. He emphasized the need for political alignment in River State ahead of the 2027 elections, advocating for a coalition that prioritizes electoral pragmatism over party loyalty.

During the tour, Wike inspected several road and bridge projects nearing completion, expressing satisfaction with the pace of work by contractors, particularly the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, which is handling the projects. He noted that the completion of the projects is contingent upon the installation of streetlights, which is expected to be finalized by the end of May.
