Wike Prioritizes Electoral Success Over APC Council Role

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, expressed that he does not require a position within the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign council to effectively deliver votes for President Bola Tinubu. Speaking after inspecting infrastructure projects in the FCT, Wike stated that he prioritizes electoral delivery over political titles, asserting that past campaign directors-general (DGs) failed to secure votes in their own states despite their prominent roles.

He cited examples including Rotimi Amaechi, Bukola Saraki, Aminu Tambuwal, and Simon Lalong, all of whom lost their respective states in previous elections while serving as campaign DGs. Wike emphasized his commitment to focusing on Rivers State and the FCT, stating, “Every politics is local.” He also defended his three-year tenure as FCT Minister, highlighting visible changes and announcing plans to publish a scorecard of projects inherited and completed during his administration.

Wike's comments come amid increasing political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
