Hamzat Names Damilola Sonayon-Jame as Running Mate

Obafemi Hamzat, the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, revealed that Damilola Sonayon-Jame will be his running mate for the 2027 governorship election under the All Progressives Congress (APC). Hamzat disclosed that he obtained Sonayon-Jame's contact through a third party and had no prior relationship with her before her selection.

The announcement was made during a public event in Ikoyi, Lagos. Hamzat stated that the selection process was rigorous and involved extensive consultations, emphasizing the need for a candidate who could balance the state's political landscape.

He noted that the decision to choose a young female candidate aligns with President Bola Tinubu's call for party leaders to resolve running mate issues among themselves. Sonayon-Jame, who is from Badagry, has distinguished herself through her commitment to service and innovative thinking across both public and private sectors.

Hamzat urged young women not to be discouraged by negative narratives about Nigeria, asserting that opportunities exist for them to contribute positively to society.
