UniCal's Best Graduate Overcomes Homelessness to Succeed

Offiong Edet, recognized as the best graduate at the University of Calabar's 38th convocation ceremony, disclosed that he spent 13 months sleeping in classrooms and at friends' places due to a lack of accommodation and financial resources. Edet, who graduated with a degree in Business Education, emphasized that his poor background did not deter his academic success.

He remained focused and disciplined throughout his studies, which he described as a journey marked by determination and commitment. Edet noted that maintaining a perfect academic record was challenging but manageable through discipline and focus.

He identified poor moral supervision and a lack of dedication among students as significant challenges within the academic system. The convocation ceremony celebrated a total of 10,820 graduates, including 52 who achieved first-class honors, 2,390 second-class upper, 5,819 second-class lower, 666 third-class, and 246 pass degrees.
