Oloyede Reflects on Last Day with Kudirat Abiola Before Death

Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, the former Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, revealed that he spent the last 24 hours with Kudirat Abiola before her assassination on June 4, 1996.

During an interview on ThisDay Live, Oloyede recounted the experience, emphasizing the significance of that time spent together. He stated that while he has witnessed many historic events, some experiences are better left undocumented to avoid reopening old wounds or stirring unnecessary controversies.

Oloyede expressed his belief that writing an autobiography could lead to confusion or disputes, noting that some details are difficult to verify. He respects those who write memoirs but feels that he would have to disclose everything, which may not always be positive.

Kudirat Abiola, wife of Chief Moshood Abiola, was a prominent figure in the struggle for democracy in Nigeria and was assassinated while campaigning for her husband's release from detention by the military regime of General Sani Abacha.
