Nigerian Man Sentenced to 17 Years for Rape in Wales

On September 7, 2025, a 20-year-old woman recounted being raped by Gift Oladele, a 24-year-old Nigerian man, in Wrexham, Wales. Oladele approached her while she was walking home and offered to accompany her.

Once in a secluded area, he overpowered her, covered her mouth, and violently raped her. The woman reported that Oladele hit her six times and threatened her life during the assault.

After the attack, she informed her parents, leading to Oladele's arrest the next day at his cousin's home. He was found with a mobile phone containing searches related to sexual attacks.

In April, Oladele was sentenced to 17 years in prison at Caernarfon Crown Court after being convicted of rape and sexual assault. He was also given an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order and a restraining order protecting the victim for life.

At the time of the attack, Oladele was on bail for another rape allegation and had a prior conviction for a sexually motivated attack.
