Pete Edochie Defends His Seniority in Nollywood

Veteran actor Pete Edochie has responded to claims suggesting that some colleagues are senior to him in the Nigerian film industry. In a podcast appearance on "Curiosity Made Me Ask," hosted by comedian Isbae U, Edochie detailed his career history, asserting that he has been acting for over three decades, predating the establishment of Nollywood, which is widely traced to 1992.

Edochie's career began in 1985 with an adaptation of Chinua Achebe's novel, which garnered him significant recognition. He challenged anyone who disagreed with his standing to come forward publicly and referenced international accolades that he claims no other Nigerian actor had received at that time.

Edochie also mentioned honors he received without lobbying, including national recognition from former President Olusegun Obasanjo and honorary doctorates from a Togolese university. He noted that he previously worked as a Director of Programmes before fully committing to the film industry.
