El-Rufai Vows to Overthrow Government After Arrest Attempt

Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, declared his intent to remove the current government from office after an alleged attempted arrest at an airport. This incident occurred during a visit from former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who was present when security agents reportedly attempted to detain El-Rufai.

He described the airport incident as unfortunate, unnecessary, and potentially unlawful. El-Rufai explained that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had earlier invited him for questioning, but he had informed his lawyer to communicate that he would return to their office on Monday, October 10.

He insisted that he had received a letter regarding the matter. Furthermore, El-Rufai accused the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) of acting under the instruction of the national security adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, alleging that the government was using security agencies for political purposes.

He warned that such actions could weaken democratic institutions and the rule of law, asserting his readiness to respond legally if invited by anti-corruption agencies.
