Davido Hints at Retirement, Prefers Not Competing at 40

Afrobeats star David Adeleke, known as Davido, has indicated the possibility of taking a break from music during an appearance on ‘The Uncut Podcast.’ He expressed that he does not wish to be 40 years old and still competing with artists in their 20s. Davido clarified that his comments should not be seen as a suggestion for established musicians to leave the industry.

He referenced Jay-Z, who took a break and successfully returned to music. Davido stated that he could take a 10-year hiatus and still conduct a 50-arena tour due to his established catalogue.

He mentioned that he might choose not to release any new music for the rest of his life, asserting that his existing catalogue remains untouchable. Furthermore, Davido emphasized that music should serve as a platform for artists to branch out into other opportunities beyond performing and recording.
