Davido Advocates for Older Artists to Step Back

Afrobeats singer Davido has suggested that he and his contemporaries should take a break from the music scene within the next five to six years to allow younger artists to emerge. Speaking on the Uncut Podcast, Davido emphasized that it is not sensible for older artists to compete with younger ones for the spotlight.

He expressed confidence in his music catalogue, stating that he could take a 10-year break and still sell out 50 arena shows upon his return. Davido remarked, “This is me and my contemporaries’ last 5–6 years.

I am not going to be 40, still dragging the spotlight with guys in their 20s.” He referenced Jay-Z as an example of an artist who successfully took a break and returned to the music scene. Davido concluded that while he is not advocating for retirement, he believes it is important for older artists to consider their roles in the industry as they age.
