Ibadan Accident Claims Two Lives, Several Injured

On April 4, 2026, at approximately 22:10 hours, a serious accident occurred at Soka Junction along the Ibadan-Lagos Expressway, resulting in the loss of two lives and injuries to several others. The Oyo State Police Command reported that the accident involved multiple vehicles, including a Toyota Venza and a BMW car.

Preliminary findings indicated that the accident was caused by a white Howo truck, registered number GOMB GEM696X, driven by Abdullahi Bashiru. He reportedly lost control of the vehicle due to reckless driving and excessive speed, which led to the truck ramming into pedestrians.

The Oyo State Police Command, represented by DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, expressed regret over the incident and confirmed the casualties. CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga commiserated with the families of the deceased and wished a quick recovery to the injured victims.

The police have commenced a thorough investigation to ascertain the full circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure justice is served.
