Residents Protest Deteriorating Ratcon Road in Oyo

More than 12 communities along Ratcon Road in the Oluyole Local Government Area of Oyo have become increasingly isolated due to the road's deteriorating condition. The 2.7-kilometre road has forced residents and business owners to abandon their homes and shops, leading to economic decline and daily transportation challenges.

Alhaji Rasaq Olalere, chairman of the residents’ committee, described the situation as unbearable, stating that repeated appeals to the Oyo State Government have not yielded results. Chief Mufutau Akintola noted that residents had previously maintained the road themselves but can no longer do so due to its severe condition.

Mrs Bosede Arayi emphasized the daily dangers, including frequent motorcycle accidents and vehicle maintenance issues. The communities affected include Odo-Ona Kekere, Aba Opa, Fawe, Apadaba, Aba-Oke, Abekoko, Bare, and Ratcon.

Residents are appealing for government intervention, especially with the rainy season approaching.
