IBB Calls for Investigation into Niger Miners' Deaths

Former military Head of State, retired General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, has demanded a thorough investigation into the deaths of suspected illegal miners who reportedly died while in custody in Niger State. Babangida described the incident as tragic and disturbing, urging authorities to clarify the circumstances and actual cause of the deaths.

He conveyed his position through Dr Danladi Umar Abdulhameed, the Tambarin Kagara. Babangida expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and commended the Niger State Government for its response, particularly its decision to form a committee of inquiry and initiate medical and forensic examinations.

He emphasized the importance of a transparent investigation to provide answers to the victims’ families and the community. Babangida also called for calm among residents, especially the youths and relatives of the deceased, while the investigation is ongoing, stressing the need for all parties to allow the authorities to complete their work and establish the truth regarding this unfortunate incident.
